Investing in education. Elevating excellence.

The Liberty School District Foundation, in partnership with Liberty Public Schools, is pleased to announce the STEAM Bus: mobile STEAM learning lab!

What is a STEAM Bus

  • We want to create a mobile lab that will facilitate hands on/project based learning experiences for our students through the use of new ideas and technologies.
  • The STEAM Bus will allow our teachers to create learning experiences that will tie in what is happening in the classroom to a real-life, hands on project or experience.
  • We envision a creative and innovative space where new technology is leveraged to assist in the student learning experience resulting in students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration and work through the creative process.

About the STEAM Bus

  • The STEAM bus experiences have been designed to be grade-level appropriate for incorporating science standards.  For the first iteration of the bus, there will be two discipline areas: bio-med and engineering.

  • Grade level work will be partnered with the preceding grade to create a continuum of progression that will complement the lessons elementary students are experiencing in Project Lead the Way modules.

  • For the first year, there will be two themes related to Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum.
      • Bio-Med Focus: Body Systems.
      • Engineering Design Focus: Structure and Function.
      • Arts and Communication will be woven throughout the entire bus.
  • High school students will help in the design and build the bus.

  • The STEAM Bus will continue to adapt and change as it relates to career pathways and STEAM education.

How to get involved

  • We have a bus and we need you to help make it a STEAM Bus!  Project Needs Include:
    • The exterior needs to be painted.  It is a previously used school bus and is still the classic yellow; however, we cannot use it as a STEAM Bus until a new exterior color is in place.
    • The interior needs to be outfitted with tables and storage structures for learning materials.
    • Technology Needs - we are still in the process of approving and seeking technology needs - IDEAS are welcome!
  • If you are a STEAM business, professional or group-let’s meet! You know the needs of the STEAM career fields, so help us create a bus that is relevant.
  • If you are an individual who is passionate about STEAM education, we encourage you to donate.  We are trying our hardest to get technology and supplies donated, but could always use additional support.
