Excellence in Education: Awarded Grants

2016-2017 Grant Awards

The Liberty School District Foundation awarded $11,760 in Excellence in Education grants to support two projects in Liberty Public Schools. In total, the LSDF received over $70,000 in requests.

LMC: Lillian Schumacher, Liberty Oaks & Lewis and Clark

This grant integrated kid-friendly programmable robots into library instruction to help students learn coding basics, increase their ability to think logically, learn to work collaboratively with others and begin to take charge of their own learning.

Following this theme of collaboration, the resources provided by this grant will be rotated between all three elementary school libraries, ultimately impacting 1,700 kindergarten-fifth grade students.

Liberty North High School

This grant provided funds which allowed the Liberty North High School Band Program to purchase electronic tuners to be used in all band courses.  The tuners will aid in the development of enhanced listening skills, ultimately leading to a higher performance.

Through the use of the tuners, students will gain a deeper understanding of the science of music in relation to sound production, acoustics, and overtone tendencies.

2015-2016 Grant Awards

The Liberty School District Foundation awarded $12,700 in Excellence in Education grant projects for the 2015-2016 school year!  In total, the LSDF received $115,000 in requests - ranging from MakerSpaces to 3D printers to Art Labs and so much more!

Heritage Middle School

Heritage Middle School: Innovation Lab (Application submitted by Librarian Beth Marley)
Heritage Middle School was awarded $7,000 to create an Innovation Lab in the library - primarily using spaces previously reserved as the computer labs.  The Innovation Lab will be open to all students before, during and after school, creating opportunities for students to stretch their learning through hands-on discovery and creation at their own pace while focused on their own interests. The Lab will contain different interactive stations focused on different aspects on design and creation.

Manor Hill Elementary

Manor Hill: Patriot Production- A Community of Makers (Application submitted by Innovation and Learning Coach Jamie Ackart)
Manor Hill Elementary was awarded a grant of $5,700 to fund their MakerSpace project called Patriot Production - A Community of Makers. The Manor Hill MakerSpace will be housed in the former computer lab and is designed to foster creativity, critical thinking and student collaboration. As a part of the process, Manor Hill collaborated with LPS Fine Arts and students in design classes at both Liberty and Liberty North High Schools.
